Teachers: Proctoring a Test from My Classes

For some ADAM customers, Test Proctors are classroom teachers who are regular users of ADAM. Teachers can initiate a proctoring session when signed into ADAM by following these steps.

  1. In ADAM, click My Classes in the left navigation.
  2. Select the class that will be taking the test. You will see all completed and upcoming tests for the selected class.
  3. Click the test name (column header) for the test being proctored. This will open the administration-specific test results page.
  4. Click the Proctor icon on the top right to open the Proctor Dashboard for the selected class.

  5. See Using the Proctor Page below for more information.

Proctoring a Test using a Proctor Code

Test Proctors do not need to be ADAM users to proctor a test. If they have been provided with a Test Code and a Proctor Password, Test Proctors can launch the Proctor Dashboard without logging into ADAM.

  1. Go to https://adamexam.com/
  2. Click the Proctor a Test button on the right.
  3. Enter the Test Code and Proctor Password provided by a district or school coordinator. Each administration (class) has a unique test code and proctor password.

  4. Click the Confirm button to verify that the Proctor Group Name is correct.
  5. Enter a first and last name if this information is not already filled in, and then click Save. You may also be asked to agree to a Proctor Acknowledgment. The proctoring page will open.

Using the Proctor Dashboard

The following sections appear on the Proctor Dashboard.

Testing Information

This area includes the name of the Test/Assessment, the name of the administration, which should correspond to the Grade Level and Session number, and the name of the Proctor Group.

Config Information

This area provides the test window for the overall Assessment, the Proctor’s name, and a field called Kiosk Only, which for the Science Assessment will always be “Yes.”  This indicates that the ADAM Lockdown Browser should be installed on the students’ test-taking devices.  At the beginning of the assessment session, students will launch the ADAM assessment delivery platform by opening the ADAM Lockdown Browser.  For more information, please see the ADAM Lockdown Browser Installation Guide.

Actions area

  • Test Code – This is the test code used by all the students in this proctor group to log into the assessment. Click the expand arrows found next to the code to maximizes the code to a full-screen view of the test code.
  • Proctor Password – The password the proctor uses to sign in.
  • Print Cards – Proctors can: 1. print a Roster and the Assessment Cards (“test tickets”) for distribution to the students or 2. use the Print Cards function to open a second window displaying the student cards from this proctor group.
  • Print Paper Form – Print a paper version of the test. This link is available only if a PDF form is attached to the test form. See Managing Forms. There may be multiple PDFs to print for some tests.
  • Late Add – Add an existing student to a proctor group after the test has started.
  • Create Temporary Student – Create a temporary student to include in a proctor group when the student does not exist in the system, or their credentials aren't known. You can merge the temporary student to a permanent student record later.
  • Actions toolbar – Use the toolbar at the top-right to apply actions to ALL student sessions. Note that you can perform these actions for individual students from the Actions column in the table (see below).
    (Not all buttons are shown.)
    • Approve All Sessions – Approve all student sessions.
    • Pause All Sessions – Pause all student sessions. The proctor must resume the session for all students to resume testing.
    • Resume All Sessions – Resume all student sessions, allowing all students whose tests were paused to continue testing.
    • Release All To Next Section – When tests have a structured stop and release between sections, click this button to allow students to move onto the next section of the test.
    • Reseat All – Reseat all students.

Session Management Area

In this area, you will be able to view, filter, and search for students in your proctor group and manage their sessions.  Students who have access to the test are listed in the Tester column.

Tester

The name of the student.

Identifier

The student identifier used by the student to log into the test.

School

The school the student attends.

Progress

The progress of the students’ assessment will display one of the following. Note: The Proctor does not “start” the test from the Proctor Dashboard. Students (when instructed to do so by the Proctor) will start their tests by starting the ADAM assessment application on their devices and entering their SSID and the test code.

  • Not Started – The student has not logged into the assessment.
  • In Progress – The student has logged into the assessment. No action is needed by the Proctor.
  • Submitted – The student has completed the test and submitted the results.
  • Breached – The student has exited the lockdown browser. The Proctor needs to reseat the student before they can log back into the assessment.
  • Paused – The Proctor has paused one or all sessions. The student sees the "Test Paused"
message on their screen. There is a time delay of about 30 seconds between pressing the pause button and the student actually being paused. The Proctor must "resume session
before the student is allowed back into the session.
  • Tester Paused – The student has paused their own session. The student sees the
Test Paused message on their screen. The Proctor can restart the student’s session, or the student can click the resume button to resume the test.
  • Reseat – The Proctor has reseated the student(s). The student has not yet logged back into the session. No action is needed by the Proctor.

Started Time

Captures the time the student started the assessment session. Proctors will not need to monitor this information.

Health

Health helps the Proctor know if the student is interacting with the assessment. Health can be one of the following values:

  • Not Started – The student has not logged into the assessment. No action is needed by the Proctor.
  • Active – The student has logged into the assessment. The student has recently interacted with the assessment.
  • No Activity – The student has not interacted with the assessment for at least 90 seconds. This could indicate that the student has:
    • Exited the lockdown browser by closing the browser. The student will need to be reseated by the Proctor before they can log back into the assessment.
    • The student is still in the assessment but hasn’t interacted with the application. No action is needed by the Proctor as long as the student is still in the lockdown browser.
  • Submitted – The student has completed and submitted the test.

Section / Item

The Section and Item columns show student progress on the administration. The Item column shows the question number the student is currently working on.

Accom (Accommodations)

The number of accommodations a student has appears in this column. Hovering over the count shows the accommodations. Accommodations relevant to the assessment session administration include Text to Speech, Read Aloud, Scribe, Extended Time, etc.

When this toggle is on, the student will have access to the Text To Speech player in the test.

Code (Accountability Code)

Shows any accountability code applied to the student, such as ME for medically excused. Click Apply in the Code column to add an accountability code for a student.

Student Actions column

Once the assessment session has started, use the more menu in the Action column for a student to control that student’s session. These actions include:

  • Pause Session – Proctors can pause an individual student session. Proctor must resume the session for the student to resume testing.
  • Reseat Session – Use if a student has something occur that “interrupts” the session. (Computer issue, Session timeout, unexpected error). Reseating allows the student to renter their test code and SSID to resume their assessment session.
  • Submit Session – Use if a student finishes their test but fails to submit the test before exiting the test.
  • Unsubmit Session – Use if a student mistakenly submits their test.
