This is step 3 of the bank creation process. See Bank Overview for more information.
Metadata fields are useful to track information about content that isn't natively part of the setup. You might want to track the copyright permissions for a Shared Stimulus or track the DOK on an Item. These can both be tracked by adding metadata fields.
There are three metadata configurations needed for each bank, one for each content type: Form, Item, and Shared Stimulus. The instructions for creating the metadata are the same for each content type. This document shows the metadata configuration for the Form content type.
Add Metadata Fields
The Item Bank must exist prior to adding metadata.
- Go to Authoring > Banks.
- Click the bank you want to edit.
- Click the Form Metadata tab.
- Click the Add Field button, and then enter the following information:
- Field Label – Enter a name for the metadata field. The label is used when displaying the field on screen. A version of the field label is used in the metadata export file.
- Detail – Enter a description of the metadata field is only displayed within this page.
- Show Settings – These checkboxes determine when a specific metadata field should be displayed.
- Show when printing – Select to include this field when printing the Form
- Show as item search filter – Select to include this field in the Metadata dropdown Form filter and as a static Form filter in Form search.
- Show in search results – Select to include this field as a column on the Form search page.
- Show in item analysis performance report.
- Show in teacher test creation.
- Field Type – There are four field types that determine the input controls available for recording data in a metadata field: Text, Checkbox, Select, and Multi-Select. Select one of these options from the dropdown list. For both Select and Multi-Select, enter the text for the options that will appear in the dropdown (click Add for each one).
- Default Value – Optionally, enter a default value for the field.
- Click OK to save the metadata field.
- Repeat this process until all the metadata fields are added to the Form.
On each Metadata page (Form, Item, and Shared Stimulus), you can drag-and-drop the fields to change their order. In the Actions column, you can click the icons to edit or delete a field.
