Creating a Field Set

Use field sets to define the identifying information students will provide when taking an administration in ADAM, including authorization fields and informational fields. The Test Code is always required, so it does not need to be added to a field set. When creating a test, you will select a field set in "Step 2. Settings and Overrides."

Follow these guidelines for authorization fields:

  • The uniqueness of a student in an administration is defined by the authorization field(s) in the field set. Do not use only Last Name as an authorization field because ADAM might find two students with the same last name, causing an error on rescan.
  • There are no restrictions on which authorization fields can be used.
  • For eligibility administrations, we recommend using two keys for the authorization field:
    Last Name + Identifier or Last Name + Random ID.
  • The Random ID field can be used to generate an ID for a student to sign in to a test. It must be used in conjunction with another auth field, such as Last Name or Identifier.

To create a field set:

  1. Go to Test Management > Field Sets.
  2. Click the Create New button on the top right (or click the edit icon for an existing field set to edit it.)
  3. Enter a Field Set Name.
  4. Click the Add Field button under Auth Fields, and then select a field used to verify the student, such as Username. Add additional authorization fields as needed (there must be at least one). If adding a Custom field, you will need the database key for the field. Generally, avoid custom fields unless there is a specific customer requirement.
  5. Optional: Click the Add Field button under Info Fields, and then add any additional informational fields you want to collect from the students. Info fields are not required.
  6. For both types of fields, click the Edit button if you want to change the field label or add help text for the field. For example, you can change Identifier to SSID with and add the help text "Enter your State Student ID."
  7. After selecting the auth and info fields, check the preview cards at the bottom to make sure that the field set is correct.
  8. Click Submit.
